Pickup trucks have progressed a lot over time, as their use has grown immensely. The 2022 Toyota Tundra 1794 edition is an example of that progression. The 1794 edition Toyota Tundra was introduced in 2014 to go alongside the SR, SR5, Limited and Platinum models. Maintaining a Western theme, the 1794 Edition name originates from the founding year of the JLC ranch which was in 1794.
Upon first look you notice the Toyota Tundra angles and big truck elements right such as the large grille, wide fenders and prominent Toyota badges. The Tundra sits on 20-in. machined-finish alloy wheels. The model tested was the crew max edition, with a bed that was a little over 6.5 ft. long. The aluminum reinforced composite bed is complete with mini tie downs, 120V/400W ac power outlet and LED lights, bed mat and steps under the tailgate. I am constantly hauling things around and the premium bed space makes life so much easier.
The crew max edition has a spacious and comfy cabin that affords the benefit in having the room to bring the whole family aboard in my travels. Speaking of the interior, the 1794 Edition includes perforated, leather trimmed, 10 way power-adjustable heated/cooled/powered front seats. I felt like there was more than enough leg room for the driver and passengers as well as elbow room. The power tilt/slide panoramic sunroof is another feature that gives the Tundra the luxurious feeling that I alluded to earlier.
Sound is extremely important to me and the 12 speaker premium JBL sound system in the Tundra blew me away. I was impressed with the clarity in the speakers and impressed that the subwoofer hit hard with the rumbling of the deep bass. The 14” hi res touch screen comes with a navigation system, Apple Car play, Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth and much more. More importantly, this system was user friendly with identifiable icons and not a bunch of excess menus, just to get to the apps. With a few taps of my finger, I need to efficiently get to what I need.
The Tundra uses an I-Force 3.5L Twin Turbo V-6 engine, DOHC 24V with Dual VVT-I, pushing out 389 hp with 479 lb-ft of torque. This powerful engine made for a smooth and stylish ride. Being a family man, as well as someone that is involved in numerous equipment hauling activities, a pickup truck has become a necessity in my life. Routine use of my pickup truck involves moving furniture, hauling my motorcycles, lawn equipment, large purchases, etc.. With that being said, there is no greater feeling than having your own pickup truck to complete these duties.
As far as safety is concerned, the 2022 Toyota Tundra comes with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. The Tundra has full-speed range dynamic cruise control, lane tracing assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist and automatic high-beam headlights. One should feel well protected with these safety features.
The Toyota Tundra’s key competitors are the Ford F-150, Ford F-150 Raptor, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra, GMC Sierra Denali, Ram 1500 and the Nissan Titan. Gas mileage has become better over the years with the Tundra. This 1794 Edition comes in at 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined. The Tundra that we tested comes in at $66,395.00.
