Pickup trucks have become just as luxurious as they are functional. The GMC Sierra AT4X is an off-road focused pickup truck. The GMC Sierra AT4X truck is setup for luxury as well. The good people at GMC delivered the 2022 Sierra 1500 AT4X to my doorstep for some review time. General Motors is an American automaker known for pickup trucks and SUV’s. GMC is one of GM’s subsidiaries, along with Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac.

Upon first look you notice the rugged exterior features the redesigned front fascia and grille with gloss-black upper and dark nickel inserts, protected dual-outlet exhaust33″ Goodyear® Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires wrapping 18″ 12-spoke high gloss-black aluminum wheels with laser etching and AEV center cap. The model AT4X that we received came in a Cayenne Red Tintcoat hue. There is a split signature c-shaped LED headlamp design.

This Sierra comes with Rocker Rails, not running boards. The Rocker rails are used to protect the paint. I do not suggest using this as a running board because it hard to get your footing on it. AT4X takes off-road capability to the next level with serious adventure-ready equipment. The tailgate it like no other that I have seen with a built in MultiPro audio system by Kicker. This is perfect for tailgating, camping or helping to pass the work day along. The truck also has LED cargo lighting, GMC MultiPro tailgate and a spray-on bed liner with AT4X logo.

The interior is Obsidian Rush and has full-grain leather seating with technical-grain leather accents. The Sierra is decked out with leather a heated and leather wrapped steering wheel, premium leather-trimmed instrument panel and door panels accented with black-finished authentic Vanta ash wood trim. There are premium micro suede headliner, sun visors and pillars, as well as heated and ventilated 16-way power front seats with massage functions. There is a good amount of space in the AT4X, with plenty of back support in the seats for long rides.

Our Sierra has the 13.4” diagonal color touchscreen infotainment system with Navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-Speaker Bose premium series with center point surround sound, SiriusXM satellite radio, a 15” customizable heads-up display, a mobile hotspot, and additional charging ports. I had to keep reminding myself that this in indeed a work truck because it has all the features, that most of the luxury vehicles that I receive to review have in them.

The Sierra has a 6.2L V8 engine delivering 420 Horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of Torque, Paired with a 10-Speed automatic transmission. The GMC has more than enough power off the line. Whether on rough terrain or smooth pavement, the Sierra moves efficiently with the uniquely tuned springs to increase maximum front and rear suspension travel. The AT4X is off road ready with its’ Terrain Mode. This is ideal for low-speed, off-road conditions, providing extreme control. To avoid getting stuck, the AT4X has front and rear e-locking differentials, which assure both wheels will spin together to keep traction.

Fuel economy with the Sierra 1500 was comes in about average with 14 mpg in the city, 17 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg combined.

The safety features added to the Sierra 1500 are much needed with features such as GMC Pro Safety with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, trailer tire pressure monitor sensors, front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking.

GMC provides a competitive warranty plan for the Sierra with a limited/ bumper – to – bumper warranty that covers three years or 36,000 miles, a powertrain limited warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles and complimentary maintenance that is covered for the first visit.

The GMC Sierra is in a highly competitive class going up against the Ford F-150 Tremor, Ram Rebel, Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 and the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Currently, the AT4X trim level is only available on the GMC Sierra 1500, although as GM Authority exclusively reported, a GMC Sierra HD AT4X is coming for the 2024 model year. The model that we tested is priced at $81,010.00. Overall, I really enjoyed the Sierra 1500. It can knock out the hard work and look good in the process.. Please enjoy my photo gallery.
