The Chevy Blazer has come a long way since debuting in 1969. The Chevrolet Blazer EV is a battery electric mid-size crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors. This EV debuted in 2022 and went on sale in mid-2023 in North America. It is produced at GM’s plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.
Upon first look you will how the Blazer has a sleek and modern design that’s low and wide and is specific to EV RS model. The RS trim adds a black-painted grille with gloss-black accents, full LED illuminated front light bar with animation and RS badging. There are also motorsport-inspired extractor vents on front fenders and T-shaped LED taillights. The model that we tested comes in a Sterling Gray Metallic hue. The Blazer is truly eye catching.
The interior is nice and spacious. The interior carries on the sports car inspired theme from the exterior. The two-tone black-and-red color scheme is stunning. The Blazer EV has two rows but more than enough space in the front and rear for legroom. The round, jet inspired, air vents add a nice touch to the dashboard. The folding rear seats down grow the 26 cubic-foot cargo area to a 60-cubic-foot space. This is good for luggage or goods that you may need to carry around.
The infotainment system is equipped with an 11-inch diagonal digital display and a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen color display with Google built-in instead of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation and SiriusXM are also included. There is also a lot of interior charging ports, a crystal clear sounding audio system.
Chevrolet offers high-tech safety assists such as forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, a rear seat reminder system, and a parking assist feature. GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system is also available.
The AWD Blazer EV that we tested is powered Dual electric motors, one for each axle, that have a combined horsepower of 288 hp with a 85 kWh battery pack. The all-wheel-drive RS version that we had handled well, drove smooth and had enough acceleration power to get the job done. Chevy does offer a SS model that comes exclusively with a 615-hp electric powertrain with standard all-wheel drive. This one will surely cure your need for speed. Chevrolet has also endowed the Blazer EV with decent road manners.
The Blazer offers up 103 MPGe in the city, 88 MPGe on the highway and 96 MPGe combined giving up to 279 miles of range on a full charge. Speaking of a full charge, at 240v it will about 9.5 hours to reach it. The Blazer EV is built on GM’s Ultium battery platform, which provides flexibility in charging speeds, range, and performance. As with every electric vehicle, range anxiety can kick in but leaving out for the day on a full charge will give you a good amount distance to cover. If you are in the city, the Blazer EV utilizes a regenerative braking system so that will extend your battery life a bit longer.
The Blazer EV sits in a competitive class, going up against other mid-size electric SUVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Tesla Model Y, the Honda Prologue, the Chevrolet Equinox EV, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. The model that we tested is priced at $60,215.00.
Chevrolet offers a 3-year or 36,000-mile Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty, an 8-year or 100,000-mile Battery warranty, an Electric Component Warranty that covers the battery pack and other electric components for 8 years or 100,000 miles, the Powertrain Warranty that is covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles, Rust-Through Corrosion that is covered for 6 years or 100,000 miles and Courtesy Transportation for 8 years or 100,000 miles, 24-hour Roadside Assistance, and the myChevrolet mobile app with Energy Assist. The EV’s come with more warranties than the gasoline powered vehicles.
New Blazer EV purchases still qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500 for eligible buyers, which can be applied toward vehicle price at time of sale by qualified and participating dealers. The Blazer EV also won the MotorTrend SUV of the Year Award (SUVOTY) for 2024. Overall, I really enjoyed this vehicle from the detailed styling to the comfortable driving.
